SUSTAINABILITY

Operating well is the whole job, not a department.

Gas has a role in Australia's energy system, and our work exists because existing fields can be made to produce more from ground already disturbed. How we do that — safely, cleanly, and in good standing with the people around us — determines whether we get to keep doing it.

01 — ENVIRONMENT

Brownfields first, by design

Our strategy is to get more out of fields that already exist. That is a commercial choice, and it is also the lower-impact one: existing wells, existing access tracks, existing disturbance — rather than opening new country.

Where we take on legacy assets, we take on their obligations too, including the plugging and abandonment of wells that others left behind. Groundwater is monitored, bores affected by our activity are subject to make-good arrangements, and disturbed ground is progressively rehabilitated to the condition agreed with the landholder and the regulator.

02 — EMISSIONS

Methane is the product, not the emission

Every molecule of methane that escapes is both a climate impact and lost revenue. We treat leak detection, venting discipline and the elimination of routine flaring as operational basics rather than reporting obligations.

One of the applications of our technology is the capture of coal-mine methane that would otherwise be vented to atmosphere by mining operations — turning a fugitive emission into a useful energy source. It is the clearest example of our commercial and environmental interests pointing the same way.

03 — COMMUNITY

We are guests on someone else's country

Our operations sit within working farms and grazing land, in regional communities where a company's reputation travels faster than its announcements. We are mindful of the impacts our operations have on the people who live and work alongside them, and we plan our activity around their operations wherever we can.

Where we can source labour, services and supplies regionally, we do. Regional businesses understand the country, and money that stays in the district does more good than money that leaves it.

04 — PEOPLE

A deliberately international team

Novus is an Australian company built by people from very different places and disciplines — Australian, American, German, Turkish; academics and drillers; mining geologists and petroleum engineers. That mix is not an accident and it is not decoration. Coal-seam gas problems are stubborn, and the answers usually come from someone whose training taught them to look at it differently.

We hire for capability and character, we make room for people to disagree with the plan, and we expect everyone — regardless of seniority, tenure or who signs their pay — to be able to speak up and be heard. Safety, technical judgement and good decisions all depend on it.

05 — GOVERNANCE

Say what is actually happening

A small company has nowhere to hide a problem, which is a good discipline. We report honestly to our board, our regulators and our partners — including when the news is unwelcome — and we do not tolerate conduct that trades integrity for a result.

Anyone who deals with Novus can raise a concern, anonymously if they prefer, through our whistleblower channel. Reports are protected, taken seriously, and reach the board.
